The first ever USS Crommelin Alumni Association Reunion was a great success! The event was attended in whole or in part by 13 former Crommelin Sailor's- five of them Palnkowners!- and some of their wives.
The Reunion kicked off Thursday evening at the Smock Golf Club on the far south side of Indianapolis. The evening was spent catching up with old friends and making new freinds. A Power Point presentation produced by Sherman Pitzer took a look at the ship and her crew from pre-com to recent times.
Friday found us at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500, Brickyard 400 and US Grand Prix. While there we walked through the museum and saw some amazing cars from racings past. A movie briefly documenting the history of the Speedway was shown. We also took the bus tour going one lap around the famed Speedway.
Friday evening the group attended an Indianapolis Indians game at Victory Field. A welcome to the USS Crommelin Reunion was flashed on the stadium scoreboard.
Saturday the group gathered at Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis for a group photo and tour of Soldier's and Sailor's monument. We then went on a walking tour of the various War Memorials in Indianapolis (and only got stopped once by rain!) After visiting the USS Indianapolis Memorial we walked along the canal to the Medal of Honor Memorial.
Saturday evening found most of us at the RCA Dome for a pre-season NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears.
